8 Balance Tests for Women Over 40 | Static vs Dynamic Balance
Take these 8 Balance tests right now and stick around to learn how using yoga poses for balance may be letting you down. For women over 40 it's often a surprise they only learn about when something tests their balance. Bone density and fear of falls that result in fracture should definitely be something we activity work to prevent.
But yoga poses alone are not the best balance exercises for seniors (or women over 40). We need dynamic balance to avoid falls and combined with agility & reaction skills are the best way to be sure your "fall-proof."

    Great exercises - I would suggest doing them barefoot or with a shoe with a very thin sole. A very cushioned shoe will add to the instabilitet I think.

      That’s advanced. Yes. But starting would be with shoes . Surface is a manipulation to make after you’ve done these with stable base.

    My balance is poor right now. According to my experience and in my case and in winter I usually lose strength. My balance declines. In spring I usually raise my "parameters". I exercise more, I gain more strength, and lighting positively affects my emotions, which are closely linked to my physical fitness. At the end of winter I feel more like dieting and taking better care of myself in general. I'm not going to overexert myself until spring. I will do my best but letting my brain and mind work with the normal healthy winter rhythm (hibernating a little like a polar bear). I will dedicate 30 minutes to do the exercises since I am "tough." Thank you! It makes a lot of sense!.

      Interesting approach.. I’d measure that muscle and strength in order not to lose it . The risk is you lose each season and as you get older it’s harder to regain so you’re leaning into something that will without adequate activity but that doesn’t have to happen with aging

    I am 64 and have been on Zepbound 2.5 since January, down 50 pounds and almost at goal. Last MD appt was very good with labs and BP within normal limits. My BMI is 24. My MD wants me to wean off now. My lifestyle changes have become routine at this point so I think I can keep the weight off on my own. I will continue to use my food diary as it has been instrumental in helping me with accountability. I just started resistance training at my gym and am starting to notice small changes in my arms and back. I love the way I look and feel. I never want to be obese again. 🎉

    Do both. They benefit the body in functionally different ways. It doesn’t have to be either/or. Getting your heart rate elevated several times a week is particularly beneficial for your cardio vascular system and lung health. Swimming is cardio. Weight training and resistance work are beneficial for your musculoskeletal function and strength especially as you age. Stop thinking about fat burning and focus on health. You can’t out exercise a poor diet. But exercise is fantastic for physical and mental health.

    Hi Debra, thank you for this. I am 54 years old and I have had Type 1 diabetes for almost 43 years. I take excellent care of myself, training (strength and cardio) 3-4 times a week and walk a lot. I was developing insulin resistance after all these years which is why Ozempic was prescribed to me. I have not lost weight, nor gained more, but I now actually feel full after a meal and THAT has changed my life. :) Like a tension has disappeared. Long-time diabetics need this medication to sustain optimal absorption of their insulin after 30 years+ life as a T1D. Less cardio vascular complications as well for us and the weight loss was an unexpected finding. :) Wishing everyone here a healthy, happy life. Thanks for promoting this for all of us.

    Can’t believe I’m running across this video today. I have been on the GLP1 shot for 2 months at the minimum .25 dose. I’ve lost 12 lbs in 2 months but the side effects of nausea and indigestion are so yucky I am thinking of stopping permanently. I know I’m not eating enough. Before I quit completely, I may try cutting the dose in half now.

    • @that.geek.girlie
      @that.geek.girlie 16 днів тому

      Sorry to hear you’re having those side effects. This info might not be helpful at all but: 1. I get nausea for two reasons. I’m either dehydrated or hungry. Drinking water doesn’t cut it once I’m feeling the effects of dehydration. When that happens, electrolytes will make the nausea go away. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try eating a light snack. 2. If it’s not dehydration or nausea, I have heard some people comment on the subreddits for these drugs that they find alkaline water helps them with both the nausea and the indigestion. That’s very anecdotal info, I couldn’t find any data that scientifically supports those claims. But I’ve seen a number of people swear by the alkaline version of smart water.

    I had regular appointments with a nutritionist at my physician’s office for a year and faithfully kept a food diary. I did all the right things but my weight kept climbing, as did the bad news with my blood work. Earlier this year, my A1C had risen to 5.9, my cholesterol level hit 289, my resting heart rate was 74, my BMI hit 34, and my blood pressure had drifted into high levels. My physician determined that I was pre diabetic and that diet/exercise were not cutting it. She advised me to start Zepbound. It’s 5 months later and all my metrics are dropping. My BMI is down to 31, my resting heart rate is 66, my blood pressure is within normal range. I’ll get my A1C and cholesterol checked in 2 months. AND, with 20 pounds off my body it’s significantly easier for me to work out, thus increasing my fitness even more. Both my doctor and I are thrilled with the impact on my overall health. Just one correction (as someone who works in biotech/pharma), Ozempic is for diabetes. Wegovy is for weight loss. Moujaro is for diabetes. Zepbound is for weight loss.

    I've been on a glp1 for 8 months and have lost 30 lbs. Slower loss than a lot of people taking it, but that's ok. Working towards losing 15 more. I've had hashimotos for 25 years and on synthroid, and high cholesterol. Because of thyroid issues, it has been very difficult to lose weight. My doctor wanted me to take statins, but I would rather try to bring it down by losing weight. I do prioritize eating protein by getting at least 110g daily. I am now starting to use weights at home. I'm 64yo.

    • @that.geek.girlie
      @that.geek.girlie 16 днів тому

      Great job on the weight. I’m in the slow and steady GLP-1 club too. My doctor has actually said it’s a better way to lose weight on these drugs as it’s not as much of a shock to your body. My doctor told me these medications were my last shot at getting my blood work in normal ranges before she starts prescribing me statins. I haven’t had my cholesterol retested yet, but my blood pressure and resting heart rate are both down dramatically. Good luck to you on your journey! I hope you continue to see positive results!

    Didn't you say within the last couple of years in a different video that oatmeal has too many carbs for the morning and then it would spike my insulin? I usually do an overnight oatmeal with a low calorie almond milk and one scoop of vegan protein powder as well as healthy seeds like flax, hemp, Chia and according to my nutrition calculator I have at least 20 g of protein or more with that breakfast. Is this still okay to eat for breakfast or is this spiking my insulin too much? I am a vegan and I don't want to drink a smoothie in the morning, but I do want to eat some actual food. Although I'm not terribly hungry in the morning and the oatmeal combination is something I can usually get down without forcing myself too much. I remember you said something like have a piece of salmon and some broccoli or something for breakfast but I just can't do that due to my lifestyle of being vegan and also my appetite wouldn't allow it even if I did eat meat. Thank you 🙏

      The best way to know is to test it. Ideally you begin the day with a minimum of 30 gm of protein (at all meals) but clients find a bigger bolus breaking the fast and before the fast starts sets you up for a better day. Yes, even with protein, high carb breakfast can spike blood sugar. Fat and Protein have the least impact on raising blood sugar - therefore insulin - the fat fertilizer. If you wore a continuous blood glucose monitor it would be possible for you to test different breakfasts. It doesn't matter where that protein comes from as long its rich in essential amino acids. your other option is to help boost with EAA supplement.

    Can someone please let me know the women's full names so I can search for their social media pages? I could only find 2 of them so I am not sure if I am spelling their names correctly. Thank you.
